How To Announce Your Pregnancy & Keep Them Guessing

Posted under SNAPSHOTS

You should all know by now that taking us seriously can lead to disastrous results.

You’ve already seen my birth announcement, right? Well, today I want to show you how I announced that my wife Avara was pregnant… and teach you how you too can create foolproof plan to trick everyone.

It was April 1st, 2009, about three months into the pregnancy, and even better, it was APRIL FOOL’S DAY.

6 Steps to Announcing Your Pregnancy Like a Boss

Pregnancy Announcement

I come from a long line of tricksters and storytellers. If they were anything like I am now, they never were happy with a straightforward story. This trick was perfect because either way the outcome was mine. And if humor was going to be an important part of my parenting style, it needed to start as soon as the whole world knew my son was going to be born.

I eventually posted the ultrasound picture, but only after I had my fun.

Have a great weekend.

Snuggles and hand grenades,

Charlie

Heh, I got a positive home pregnancy test on April 1, 2006. I seriously debated waiting to tell my husband until the next day because really? (I showed him. Then went to dinner with my family and struggled to keep our secret. Good times.)

  • CourtneyEdens says:

I would have loved to do that! Too bad I always had my babies before April Fools. My Daughter Abbie was due April 2. πŸ™‚

  • Kyle says:

Actually did this myself, in my excitement forgetting that it was April Fool’s day when we shared our joyous news! Hilarity ensued in trying to convince folks it was no jest…

  • Oh, you’re a cunning oneÒ€¦ πŸ™‚

  • Zakary says:

True story: I played the whole “haha, I’m pregnant, April’s Fool’s!” joke on my husband and my mom in 2007. I found out five weeks later that the JOKE WAS ON ME.

My son will be five this month.

    • selina says:

      Hilarious!

    • HazelBroadway says:

That is great! Haha! Your story reminded me of something I had forgotten. Also a true story: My boyfriend at the time had the hiccups for days. Days and days. It was driving us both crazy. We tried every trick. I tried scaring him by sneaking up on him, everything. Nothing worked. Day 5 an idea came to me. I sat on his lap when we had friends over after work and whispered, “I’m pregnant…” He kind of gagged in shock and did NOT hiccup again!

    That is excellent πŸ˜€
What is NOT excellent is following your birth announcement and find out that you’re 3 years younger than me! No fair – my parenting contemporaries who are blogging about their experiences are not allowed to be YOUNGER than me!! You’re the voice of wisdom! And nowI just feel old *sniffles*

    • Christine says:

Ugh! I did not notice. But now,we feel old together!

  • Jen says:

My pregnancy announcement of my 3rd and slightly unplanned baby went like this via text.

    Me: I want chicken.

    Husband: what kind?

    Me: Fried- Popeyes

    Husband: really?

    me: yes

    Next day- next consecutive text.

    Me: Um…. I’m pregnant

    husband:

  • frugal baby says:

    Pure genius! Loving it..

  • Christina says:

    This is awesome!
I found out with #2 and #3 ON April fools day in 2007 and 2009.

  • Rebecca says:

Haha… I announced on April Fools Day too. I posted a picture of a stick test with a smiley face… Technically, it was the ovulation test, not the actual pregnancy test… I thought a smiley face was more ambiguous than a “pregnant”.

  • Jenn says:

This is so much better than me saying “I guess my hubby does know how to cook, well at least how to put a bun in the oven.” That was as creative as I got! LOL!

  • Babz says:

Haha try having the baby on April fool’s day..my baby girl was born April 1 this year and noone believed us until we sent them pics from the hospital πŸ™‚

    • selina says:

Yep, my son was born April 1, 2010. πŸ™‚ Although his picture was up on facebook within a few hours so there was no reason for people to doubt, haha.

    • Jayla says:

After dating my then-boyfriend for a few months, I told him we needed to talk about our values, beliefs and what we wanted out of life before our relationship got any more serious. If we weren’t on the same page then there was no point in continuing the relationship. We were compatible in all ways, but before the conversation ended he said, “I want you to know that I just know that if we get married, we are going to have twin girls someday.” I laughed at him and called him dramatic. We got married a year and a half later. 7 years after his prediction we were trying for a 2nd baby and got twin girls. Our due date was April 22nd. I told the dr they would be born April 1st because God was playing a practical joke on me. I begged him to do a cesarean on March 31st when I realized I was showing signs of going into labor within a day or 2. He refused. I went into labor that night and the girls were born just before 1 am on April 1st.

  • Jess says:

My son is an April Fools baby and trust me when I say it was no joke! πŸ˜‰

  • That’s the plan.
    I mean, shhhhhhhhh.

  • Amanda Hill says:

lol too funny.the funny thing is that my 2nd daughter was born on april fool’s day and trying to text and let everyone know was crazy because most of them didn’t believe us lol.we had to send pictures to everyone to verify! haha

  • junerain says:

we didnt tell anyone until our 22 week ultrasound when we found out it was a boy…i just wore baggy clothes and let people guess between baby and chubby! it was great fun cause nobody wants to ask but they all really want to know. then we only announced it on facebook so the people that didnt actually read oour posted didnt find out some until weeks before he was due! it was kinda fun

  • Monica says:

I found out I was preggo after April Fools Day. πŸ™ Last year, my 28 yr old husband had a stint put in on April Fools Day so naturally no one wanted to believe it.

  • Kevin W says:

This is funny! We announced the gender through cupcakes. The outside was either boy or girl, and they pick what their guess is of what we were having. Inside all the cupcakes were filled with frosting colored pink! I have pictures on my blog!

  • LaTisha says:

We found out I was pregnant in December, my husband wanted to wait until April fools to share. Everyone thought it was an elaborate prank with props. We announced with a picture of us with a double stroller

  • Lynann says:

My sister-in-laws sister called her husband from her ultrasound on April Fool’s day to tell him they were having twins. He did not believe her. Her mother had to get on the line and confirm it, repeatedly. πŸ™‚

  • Rick G says:

My wife announced she was pregnant with our first child to me by handing me a positive pregnancy test first thing in the morning on April 1st, 2010 while I was online reading all the fake news articles. I didn’t know if I was supposed to believe it or not. She didn’t realize what day it was, which made my initial reaction even more baffling to her.

Needless to say, we always check the calendar now before announcing any surprises to each other.

  • Rebecca says:

Ironically, we also announced on April Fool’s day and maintained radio silence until the 2nd (daughter is almost 28 months). We hadn’t told anyone about our timeline or mentioned that we were trying. And actually, I was so vehemently against telling people knowing what we were doing (none of their damn beeswax!), that people actually thought she was an accident!

  • Coralie says:

When pregnant with out first, my husband announced it by texting “just call me Dad” to all out friends and family.

  • Victor says:

We had a second ultra sound on April fools day. We already knew we were having a girl so my joke was to tell everyone that we were actually having a boy. I went as far as downloading a boy ultrasound and posting to FB. Ha! Boom

  • Kyle says:

Not a word of lie. Did this accidentally in my excitement. Didn’t realize it was April fools day! Can’t remember if it was 4+ years ago for my son, or 2+ years ago for my daughter (both October babies, we had fun winters) we had many people asking if it was a joke and I couldn’t convince anyone until the next day that it was true.
