Maximumble: Jump on the Couch

As my children grow up there are lots of rules they have to learn: Don’t throw things in the house. Don’t sit on the table. Don’t put the dog in the toilet.
I’m the main rule enforcer. My recitation of the rules are usually followed by a “That’s not fair!” He’s right. It’s not fair because from his perspective I get to break the rules anytime I please and there are no consequences.
“Daddy, no standing on the couch!”
“I know sweetie but it’s okay, I’m changing a lightbulb.”
“Daddy, no drawing on the walls!”
“Oh it’s okay, I’m measuring to hang these curtains.”
“Daddy, no ice cream until after dinner!”
“Yes, but I really wanted ice cream.”
