My Wife Just Texted… #161
My phone lit up by my side as I was working late. I read the text and knew it probably meant that the part of my 4yo son’s mind that manufactures nightmares was also working late. I made an awwww face as imagined the little guy stumbling with drowsy desperation to our room, to the comfort and security of our bed.
We’re no strangers to co-sleeping, but it’s extremely rare now. I was glad of the digital intruder alert, so I wasn’t left to discover it later on my own, fumbling through the dark only to find a not-so-small lump of sprawling heat occupying my side of the bed.
He needed my side of the bed more than I did that night, so I just performed the evasive maneuver of sleeping in our guest bed. I knew she needed him there, too. Or whatever you call it when wanting is strong enough for it to pass for needing.
And we all slept happily ever after.*
*at least for that night.
