Meet The Most Interesting Dad On YouTube
If you’ve ever wandered on the internet, you know there are many things to experience. Sights. Sounds. Videos. Images. There is a dense forest of people and ideas, objects and motivations that spreads beyond all physical horizons. Lately, people have been talking about a Dark Web where things happen beyond the normal to and fro of internet traffic. Well, rather than get into the Dark Web, or travel a Silk Road, I wanted to show you a place that is all about an Illusion.
Or rather, that’s what he calls himself. Meet YouTuber Hamish Patterson.
Surfer spiritualist. Skateboarding carpenter. Dad. Last year Hamish ran for Malibu City Council, and by my estimation from watching way too many of his YouTube videos, the man is a walking character from The Californians back when SNL had Kristen Wiig.
Hamish goes by “The Illusion” — an identity I can only surmise was developed from a visionquest where he learned that existence is merely an illusion and videos are just cartoons with real people. Or something.
But I love him. The Illusion is an oddly charismatic and sort of calming influence. He’s no digital guru or YouTubing entrepreneur. He’s a pretty simple, straightforward kind of guy. The way he looks at his son, and his way with him is also refreshing. He’s not putting on airs, or changing who he is to be a father.
Anyway, if you get lost in his videos, I can’t blame you. The Illusion is tricky like that.
