#Lairing My Boys’ Bedrooms
We were so unprepared before Finn’s birth. His room was in disarray and we were in the middle of packing the hospital bag when vaj-agra falls happened. In less than fours hours, we had a baby boy in our arms.
This time I wanted to buy all of the things, not just to be ready but because I wanted to be part of the process of making my boys’ rooms RAD (it’s so weird to say “boys” PLURAL). DUDES GET NESTING TOO, LADIES. I needed help so I called in the big guns and emailed my friends over at The Land of Nod to help me out. They not only helped me pick out baby furniture for the boys’ bedrooms but they also graciously sent two of their senior designers to our house…

Finn’s Big Boy Bedroom
It was important to me that we integrate some of Finn’s old knick-knacks into Finn’s room, but it was time to level up Mr. Finnegan Bigboypants Capen. I wanted to find a way to make sure he knew I knew he was growing up. Give him his own desk. Big boy bed. You name it.
BEFORE PICTURE
We took photos of the final reveal of our boy’s bedrooms. More news on that below.
Below is a list of a few of the items in his room and a thought about each of them. You can purchase them here or through the catalog if you like. They’re affiliate links, so click away if you feel like supporting our website.
THE GOODS: FINN’S ROOM
I loved this globe shade. I want my son to grow up knowing that the world is bigger than a car ride to school and small enough to map in its entirety.
Buy it here:
Looseleaf Pendant Shade (World)
This blanket is not only soft but it’s also cuddly. Just like me. Now, I’m colorblind so having his room in varying textures of gray is not on accident. Plus, it looks all postmoderneclecticbohosheik or whatnot.

What? YOU WISH YOU HAD A TEEPEE IN YOUR ROOM? Well, we’re putting one in Finn’s room. Most kids bedroom furniture sets are super similar. A teepee? Well, this kids bedroom furniture set has A FRIGGING TEEPEE.
Buy it here:
A Teepee to Call Your Own (Black Stripe)
I’ll be honest. I don’t think I would’ve normally purchased this bed, simply seeing it on the website/catalog. But I’m SO glad we got it. It’s so modern and old-school at the same time. The woodturnings are rad.
Buy it here:
Kids Beds: Black Spiral Spindle Bed
We have a tough space with Finn’s room. The wall space is odd and then there are massive windows, which are cool for light but bad for a desk. This was a great solution for us.
Buy it here:
Little Sloane Leaning Desk (Grey)
Again, we had limited wall space so we had to go high-rise with this sucker. We have so many books that we’ve been collecting since Avara’s baby shower. Like New York City, we built upwards.
Buy it here:
High Rise Bookshelf (Grey)
Want the coolest bedding? Get this stuff by Lisa Congdon. She’s an artist and radness engineer. Finn LOVES his bedding.

Welcome to the Jungle Sheet Set
I drew upon a few references with Finn’s room. I wanted a little nautical in there. BOOM. Rope lamp!
Buy it here:
Tug O Lamp
We’ve had these forever. They are durable and hold tons of stuff. AND you can stack them. It seemed like a perfect fit to bring them back but this time in gray.
Buy them here: Kids Toy Boxes: Kids Wooden Primary Stacking Storage 2 and 3 Bin
Finn has had a wooden rocket ship since he was very little. It was time to upgrade to version 2.0. We might’ve skipped to 3.0 with this one. It’s 40″ high!
Buy it here:
Intergalactic Play Set

Baby #2’s Nursery
We were in the middle of putting the nursery furniture together the last time Avara went into labor. We wanted to be ahead of that curveball. Here’s a before picture and some of the items we put together for the baby’s room. It needed to be really comfortable for breastfeeding but also serve as a workspace for Avara. It basically needed to be a TRANSFORMER room with multiple capabilities…
BEFORE PICTURE
THE GOODS: BABY #2’S ROOM
Those first few months are especially SIT-WORTHY so getting the right chair is key. This one had what we needed: swivel, glide, lower arms and durable. I could practically breastfeed sitting in this chair myself!
Buy it here:
Mod Nod Swivel Glider (Devote Pewter)
A rad crib and sort of ahead of its time. Literally. I’m not even sure if it’s available for purchase yet. We’re committing to seeing how much we can get this boy to sleep in his own bed after last time… Whew.
Check it out their cribs here: ducduc for Nod: Oslo Crib in Grey
Space for baby stuff storage? Yep. We got it. And it’s super cool looking. I wanted some warmer colored wood in here to keep things light and natural. Like me. Except I’m almost translucent-colored.
Buy it here:
Kids Bench: Kids 2-Door Storage Bench with Bookcase
When I was imagining my newborn’s room, I knew I wanted something from his home planet of Krypton. Just kidding. But doesn’t this LOOK LIKE IT’S FROM SUPERMAN’S HOME PLANET?
Buy it here:
Kids Lighting: Silver Geometric Lamp Base
If I can teach my sons one thing as a parent, it will be that our attitudes and imaginations dictate how we journey through our own lives. I want my boys to have their head in the clouds. And on them, in this case.

Thanks for checking out all the the crazy #Lairing I’ve been doing. Please help me start a revolution of fathers making more decisions about their kids’ rooms and all the Batman-level supplies on the utility belt of being a parent. If you have any questions about these items, just post a comment and I’ll help you as best I can.

Disclosure: I was not paid for this post but I’ve been obsessed with Land of Nod since we found out we were pregnant with Finn. Somehow, I hypnotized them into helping us pick out furniture and letting us chose some pieces to take home that we dearly loved. These opinions are my own and were my own before I reached out to Land of Nod. Honestly, they’re just some of the nicest people I’ve talked to and worth supporting.
