“Swimming” : Convos With My 4-Year-Old
If you’ve known how to swim for a long while it can be hard to remember what it was like when you first learned. For a little kid, even fully armored up like the Stay Puf’t Marshmallow Man with weird-feeling floaties, the giant bathtub that a pool is can be ominous. Being told that they’re going to learn how to flap around in it by themselves might even seem like a threat.
Some kids take to it like fish, and some take to it like a weed whacker set to Deforestation mode (best to trim their nails beforehand).
It’s worth it, though. Aside from the parental satisfaction of giving your child the gift of joyous swimming fun for the rest of their life, I like to also think of it as giving yourself the gift of not worrying about your kid drowning. Double bonus.
